MusicChat It's complicated... I really like the directing, acting and writing but, there are issues with the way it's shot that I just can't deny. As much as I love the storytelling and the fantastic performance but, there are also certain scenes that didn't need to exist.
kosmasp Or still here. If you have two great actors like that in a movie, you can not go wrong. Watching them play off each other is a blast. Morgan Freeman might have aged (like we all do), but he's has a presence that can be felt. Drama might not be everyones cup of tea, but if it is, you should watch a couple trying to cope with the fact they are getting older and how to spend their time. Also where to spend their time and if the lifestyle they are used to is still something they should be going after. It's easier to move into something smaller, although on the other hand it's always tough to leave something familiar behind. So while the stakes seem not really high (and they aren't, this is a light affair), the movie can be convincing, if only for the acting talent at hand
vincentlynch-moonoi The joy of this film is simply watching 2 consummate actors -- Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton -- ply their craft. Oddly enough, I didn't like either of these actors when they were young. But in autumn, they are choice. The premise of the film is that an aging mixed race couple are thinking of moving out of New York City...mostly because their apartment is now worth $1 million, but partly because their current residence is 5 flights up...not good when you're getting old. Meanwhile, their small dog has to have expensive surgery.Korey Jackson is amazingly on-target as the young Morgan Freeman; I hope we see more of him. Claire van der Boom does well as the young Diane Keaton. It's really quite a touching film, and I enjoyed it...except for the ending. Morgan Freeman's character is clearly getting old, and they turn down selling their 4 floor walk-up...despite the fact that old people can't walk that many levels of stairs...trust me, I know. Nevertheless, I recommend this film for mature audiences. What impressed me was what was not emphasized...something that you just need to get on your own -- that many of the guess who's coming to dinner couples undoubtedly lived happy lives despite all the haters.
rps-2 How do you take something as humdrum as a routine real estate transaction and turn it into a wonderfully warm, human, humorous, thoroughly beautiful and enjoyable movie? Watch it and you'll see how. Morgan Freeman is imposing. Dianne Keaton is wonderful. The film captures the hectic spirit of New York City accurately and does so without guns, sex, violence or foul language. (Well, okay, the "F-word turns up once.) It also tells a lasting love story about an older couple without resorting to mawkishness or clichés. So, say you, I'm some sort of goody two shoes blue stocking. Not at all. I just appreciate beautiful stories well told by dedicated filmmakers. This joins my ten top favourites ("The Great Race is number one")and a movie I shall heartily recommend to family and friends. Delightful!! Wonderful!!!
re-en-actor I don't ever want to see this movie again and I wanted it to end. This is an awful, boring, and predictable Hollywood corporate movie and a waste of good actors. The movie starts off with the typical product placement, mention of an Apple store then Keaton has the Apple computer with logo gleaming. The majority of the movie is stressful real estate dealings with unrealistic buyers and jargon which never ends. The couple's poor little 10 year old dog has to climb 5 flights of stairs every day because the owner would rather carry his coffee which causes the dogs back to go out and even after $10K+ surgery and a full recovery the stupid owner still carries his coffee and makes the dog climb the stairs... right. And then throw in the politically correct pro Muslim side story when the media labels the truck driver as a terrorist just because he abandoned his truck on the bridge. I have a re-write for this script: The vet doctor calls the SPCA and after investigating they take the dog away from the couple and fine the couple $50,000 which forces them to sell their place and after the lady and little girl buy their place the SPCA gives the little girl the dog and she carries it up the stairs every day and we never hear about the stupid bi-racial couple again. Oh and the truck driver turns out to be in the US illegally from Saudi Arabia and is using a false name and gets deported.
